|Bungie Looking Beyond Halo for Future Games?

Though Microsoft Game Studios developer Bungie is hard at work finishing up Halo 3
for the Xbox 360,
a report suggests that the company might be looking beyond the Master Chief for
its next games.
Is this the end of the Halo series, or the beginning of something new?
San Jose Mercury technology reporter Dean Takahashi, author of the
books Opening the Xbox
and The Xbox 360 Uncloaked, is writing that Halo 3
developer Bungie is busy cooking up something beyond "just that one blockbuster project."
Takahashi writes that Jason Jones, who led development of both Halo games, and Chris Butcher,
Bungie's "top programmer," are busy trying to come up with "something new" for the Microsoft-owned
Xbox 360 developer. According to Takahasi, Jones has from a year-long vacation ready to rock and roll.
But that's not all -- Takahashi believes that Bungie may have as many as three teams total working on
three separate projects: Halo 3, the mystery project involving Jones and Butcher, and possibly a third
Takahashi also notes that Xbox 360 chief Peter Moore has essentially denied the existence
of non-Halo 3 development teams inside Bungie. He told Takahashi that "I don't know that
Bungie has a second team."
On the other hand, Takahashi thinks the numbers add up for other, non-Halo Bungie games,
citing a Spong report that Halo 3 will be the last chapter in the series, as well as being told my
multiple sources that Halo developer Jones is "not a sequel kind of guy."
